Understanding what makes this location special requires looking beyond the menu and appreciating the philosophy underpinning their operation. They strive to create an environment where guests feel valued and where the food speaks for itself, relying on the natural enhancement provided by genuine wood heat rather than masking flavors with heavy sauces or excessive seasoning. This focus on purity and intensity of flavor is central to the Brown Derby’s enduring appeal.
Key Highlights of the Brown Derby Experience
The Brown Derby Wood Fired Steakhouse distinguishes itself through several core commitments that resonate deeply with discerning diners. These elements combine to form a cohesive and highly regarded dining destination:
The Authentic Wood Fired Technique: The centerpiece of the kitchen is the wood fire itself. This method of cooking imparts a unique, deep, smoky essence to the steaks and other grilled items that cannot be replicated by gas or electric methods. This commitment to traditional, high-heat searing locks in juices while developing a complex crust, resulting in steaks that are both tender and intensely flavorful. It is the foundational element of their culinary identity.
Focus on Premium Quality Ingredients: A wood-fired steakhouse is only as good as the meat it serves. The Brown Derby places significant emphasis on sourcing high-quality cuts, ensuring that the inherent quality of the beef stands up to the intense heat of the wood fire. This careful selection process guarantees a superior texture and taste profile across their entire steak selection.
Inviting and Sophisticated Atmosphere: Located at 5051 Eastpointe Dr, the physical space is designed to complement the robust nature of the food. The interior balances rustic elements, reminiscent of classic steakhouses, with modern refinement. This creates an environment that feels both intimate and energetic, perfect for conversation and savoring a well-prepared meal.
Dedicated Service Philosophy: Beyond the food, the staff at the Brown Derby are trained to provide attentive, knowledgeable service. They aim to guide patrons through the menu, offering insights into the wood-fired process and suggesting pairings that enhance the overall dining experience. This level of professionalism ensures that every visit feels personalized and seamless.
These highlighted aspects—the mastery of fire, the insistence on quality sourcing, the carefully curated ambiance, and the commitment to excellent service—are the pillars upon which the Brown Derby Wood Fired Steakhouse has built its reputation in Medina, Ohio. They represent a holistic approach to hospitality where every component is calibrated for guest satisfaction.

First time here. Really nice inside. My steak was tasty and cooked as ordered. My wifes steak however was ordered medium and was really well done and not appealing at all. Our attentive waitress Leslie noticed my wife was not happy and the steak was removed from the bill. The green fried tomatoes, salad, Mexican street corn, sweet potato were all excellent. We will be back.
8/14/25 Finally made it back with friends. Everyone loved their meals! Give it a try!

Our family of 7 went laat night for dinner! We had a reservation! We realize they were extremely busy but they fell short in every category! They sat us promptly in a back corner where nobody ever or even acknowledged for at least 10 minutes! When the hostess fimally came to check on us, she was surprised and said she would get someone! It was another 10 minutes before a server returned ! I am sure they pulled her from somewhere else! She was apologetic! Not her fault! Finally returned with some waters and took pur drink order! Drinks were another 10 minutes! When we finally received our meals they were luke warm!
Three of us ordered mudhrooms and onions! They send out a massive pile of onions and we were told they had run out of mushrooms! They never came and told us thar! My daughter would havevordered something else! My daughters steak was over cooked and honestly looked like it was boiled! So my other daughter gave her part of her filet! The 1lb t-bome was probably 8 oz. My rib eye was very thin and fatty! Not exagerating at all! Not a good experience! $450.00, plus $100.00 tip! Won't be going back!

Amazing dinner. I've been going to the BD since I was a wee lad. We hadn't been to one in a while and it felt like home. Food, service and atmosphere were everything I remembered and more. I wish there was still a location in Columbus.

They were busy on a Saturday night, and we were not in a hurry. We were celebrating a few things. (However, I felt like we were a pain to our server.) It is a loud atmosphere. The food was AMAZING! My filet was, my mouth is watering just thinking about it. We will definitely be back.

Under cooked fried pickles, dirty glasses and not just spots, caked on old food. Steaks were supposed to be medium well but were completely well done, and salad was brown a gross. Plus the spider playing on its web on our booth really made it look like they don't get wiped down much.

2:30 Saturday wife order 8oz sirloin Medium and I ordered to 12 oz Top sirloin Medium. Her was way overcooked I’d say Med-Well to Well done. I switched with her to keep her happy. The 8 oz was tougher than a tire. Sweet potato was burnt. Broccoli and rice were great. Who knows maybe I came at an off time or they have a new cook in training or something. Although my dogs are very happy to take the leftover steak.
